Alphabetic Filing is the arrangement of files by name (individual, company, subject) in dictionary order. Most commonly used for filing systems with less than 5,000 records. Allows direct acess to information because cross references are not needed. Numeric Filing is the arrangement of files by number in sequential order from the lowest to the highest. A practical system for large volumes of records, especially those exceeding 5,000 records. Records such as policies, invoices, accounts, claims, etc., are a "natural" for this type of filing. In a numeric system, each number is unique. Terminal Digit Filing is the arrangement of numeric files into groups of files with the same last two digits. This is an efficient system when records exceed 10,000, or, when there are skips in the numeric sequence, such as social security numbers or when files are extensively purged. A quick convenient way to color code your files. Your file list can be converted to strip labels at the factory. Systems can be collated and are ready to go out of the carton. Bar codes allow for record tracking. Your supplied bar code information can be added to any compatible strip label system.
